Building Community: ABQFaithWorks' Asylum Program Brings Together Volunteers, Staff, and Families

On Saturday, December 3rd, 2022, ABQFaithWorks' Asylum Program held a holiday celebration at First Unitarian Church's gathering space for some of our newest neighbors in Albuquerque. The event was attended by over 60 children and their families currently in the program, and was organized and put on by a team of dedicated volunteers led by Vangie Wells. From purchasing to wrapping gifts and setting up the space, our volunteers made it all possible.

The children had a great time decorating cookies and eating donuts, while their parents enjoyed coffee, tea, and burritos. Thanks to the generous donations of our supporters, every child received a toy and warm clothes. It was a wonderful celebration filled with joy and cheer, and a great opportunity for families, volunteers, and staff to come together and enjoy each other's company. The Holiday Party was a reminder of the strong community that we have built through our Asylum Program, and the important work that we do to support and empower those seeking asylum in our country.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Vangie and the rest of the volunteer team for their hard work in organizing this event, and to all of our supporters and donors who made it possible, with special thanks to the First Unitarian Church and ERA Cares NM who, through their generous contribution, helped us ensure every child received a gift for the holidays. We look forward to continuing to make a difference in the lives of those in our Asylum Program, and to creating more memorable moments like this in the future.
