Ella Joan Fenoglio was honored by the NM Bar Association for her outstanding pro bono work with New Mexico Immigrant Law Center and ABQ FaithWorks Collaborative, among other organizations. She was nominated for this award by Delaney Swink (pictured above), Pro Bono Coordinator at NMILC. Also pictured above with Ella Joan is Jessica Corley, Executive Director of ABQ FaithWorks.

Ella Joan has been a volunteer with FaithWorks since 2019 as a Family Liaison and in the asylum clinic between NMILC and FaithWorks since its inception. As a fluent Spanish speaker, Ella Joan’s contribution to both organizations has been immeasurably valuable. We are so grateful to have Ella Joan as a volunteer. Congratulations for receiving this well-deserved award!

Interim Executive Director, Abbey Reed, appointed by the Board of ABQ FaithWorks Collaborative. (July 19, 2023, Albuquerque, New Mexico)

Abbey Reed, currently the Director of the Housing and Homelessness Program at FaithWorks, will assume the position of Interim Executive Director effective September 11, 2023. Jessica Corley, Executive Director of ABQ FaithWorks Collaborative, is stepping down on September 8, 2023, to pursue other professional interests. Ms. Corley will serve on the FaithWorks Board of Directors.

Ms. Reed, a native of Wyoming, joined ABQ FaithWorks in the fall of 2022, bringing many years of non-profit experience with her. As Housing and Homelessness Director, she runs the Rapid Re-Housing program funded by the City of Albuquerque.

Ms. Corley has provided leadership in immigration work since 2019 when Albuquerque received busloads of migrants moving on to other cities in the US. She joined ABQ FaithWorks as Director of the Asylum Program in 2020 and assumed the Executive Director position in December of 2021. During her tenure, the non-profit grew to a yearly budget of over $750,000.

ABQ FaithWorks is a 501c3 nonprofit established in 2019. The vision is that all people are safely housed and integrated into healthy communities of their choice. FaithWorks is a pro-active, interfaith community which leverages shared resources in support of asylum seekers and people who are unhoused, or at the risk of becoming so. Together, FaithWorks learns, serves and advocates with their

clients. They aim to set the standard for a collaborative community response.

On Thursday, in partnership with the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center, we once again held our monthly Asylum and Work Permit Application clinic. This month’s clinic was held at the Friends Meeting House. Shout out to Sarah Malone for generously offering this space! Multiple ABQFaithWorks clients were there in order to complete their work permit applications since the 150 days after submitting their asylum application (submitted at one of our previous clinics) had elapsed. Thank you to the incredible volunteers who work with the clients and lawyers to fill out these applications with accuracy and kindness. Thank you, also, to the amazing team at NMILC who coordinate with clients and volunteers to assure that these clinics run smoothly! (You can see that while their parents were hard at work on their applications, the kids were hard at play downstairs in the Quaker House’s inviting play room!)
