On Thursday, in partnership with the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center, we once again held our monthly Asylum and Work Permit Application clinic. This month’s clinic was held at the Friends Meeting House. Shout out to Sarah Malone for generously offering this space! Multiple ABQFaithWorks clients were there in order to complete their work permit applications since the 150 days after submitting their asylum application (submitted at one of our previous clinics) had elapsed. Thank you to the incredible volunteers who work with the clients and lawyers to fill out these applications with accuracy and kindness. Thank you, also, to the amazing team at NMILC who coordinate with clients and volunteers to assure that these clinics run smoothly! (You can see that while their parents were hard at work on their applications, the kids were hard at play downstairs in the Quaker House’s inviting play room!)

This past Tuesday, clients, volunteers, and staff from ABQ FaithWorks Asylum Program and Las Cumbres WINGS program gathered at Tingley Beach. Teens, kids, and adults alike enjoyed visiting with each other, eating fresh plums and peaches, watermelon and jicama, grilled hot dogs and ice cream; playing hopscotch and climbing on the playground, chasing bubbles and watching the geese; and being surrounded by the beautiful ponds and vegetation. Thank you so much to everyone who came, and for those who could not be there, please stay tuned for the announcements about future events!

Gwenn Robinson (Board member) and Dwight Burney hosted a brunch fundraiser in their home on Sunday, July 16, 2023. First Lady of Albuquerque, Dr. Elizabeth Kistin addressed the crowd and provided an overview of the City’s responses to the unhoused and asylum seekers living in Albuquerque. She highlighted the collaboration between ABQ FaithWorks and the city.

Jessica Corley, Executive Director of ABQ FaithWorks spoke briefly about the work that FaithWorks is doing in our community. A huge thank you to Gwenn and Dwight for hosting this very successful fundraiser.
